I have worked with Shalisha for my art project entitled The Muse. The Muse is a monologue written by me, then informally spoken and recorded by Shalisha. The sound piece was released in relation to a series of Rihanna paintings constituting the exhibition The Muse at Kristiansand Kunsthall in Norway Shalisha immediately understood what sort of sound, mood and language I was going for. The voice over was arranged in the exhibition space so that I was dancing and around the paintings. Some visitors thought I had asked Rihanna to speak for me. The Muse is now a character who lies somewhere between me, Rihanna and fiction. In the monologue The Muse talks about herself, about me, about my paintings, the show, surfing, leisure, whiteness, blackness, guilt, appropriation, privilege and much more. In the voice over it becomes apparent that Shalisha was passionate about the themes and my project. That gave an extra dimension to the final art work.
